{"id":706,"date":"2025-11-24T18:53:57","date_gmt":"2025-11-24T16:53:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kknk2026.kknk.co.za\/?p=706"},"modified":"2026-01-24T14:53:20","modified_gmt":"2026-01-24T12:53:20","slug":"kans-karoo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kknk2026.kknk.co.za\/en\/visuele-kuns\/kans-karoo\/","title":{"rendered":"Kans Karoo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Kans Karoo<\/em> reminds us of the rare chance that we are all alive at the same moment in time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is an interactive photographic, sound and textile project by Hannah Paton, in collaboration with the Barrydale Hand Weavers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The traditional, often clinical photographic studio, with its infinity curve backdrop, is reimagined as a soft, emotive space that invites festivalgoers to become part of a chance portrait. The photographer focusses on the participant, as the chance plays out, to give recognition to every life that is playing out at present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The traditional photographic landscape or backdrop is created here through individual strands of suspended cotton thread, like lifelines that extends: The background infinity curve, KansMoeder (the Chance Mother), keeps the threads and fibres together. All the chances in life depend on her. The colours and textures represent memories, something tangible of which we all become a part. Every thread contributes to the whole: Every thread a lifeline, a frequency of presence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The background moves with you, and you can move within it. Life or death is never a fixed backdrop. Regardless of your personal background, you become part of a bigger whole. We all share the same backdrop: we stand on the same earth, within the universal infinity curve of the universe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Kans Karoo<\/em> is an inclusive community project, the living fibre of existence that manifests as KansMoeder and various other Kans-fibres and -wonders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At a time where we live together daily with big differences, this is an invitation to take the chance, to stand inside a penetrable backdrop and remember that we all share this space.
