Mauritz Lotz’s new musical composition for ballet and contemporary dance left audiences in awe at this year’s Suidoosterfees. The music, composed in 2020, can be described as a “hybrid” work for modern contemporary instruments, orchestra and choir. This is a captivating and ethereal dance production that explores the transformative journey of an angel, caught between the divine and the earthly realm. In this three-part short dance production, the movement takes place from the heavenly realm, where light and harmony reign, to the chaos and beauty of the earthly world. The dance tells a story of grace, vulnerability and redemption. Through a mesmerising blend of contemporary and classical dance, the production brings a dance of transformation – a reminder that even in moments of descent, there is beauty, light and the potential for rebirth. Nominated for the Momentum Aardklop Uitklop Prize in 2025.
